About the Nalafem Summit

Since its inception, the Nalafem Summit has established itself as one of Africa’s largest multigenerational platforms. Through advocacy, accountability, innovation and partnerships, the summit has been instrumental in accelerating the realization of gender commitments in African countries.

This year, together with the Government of Namibia, Nalafem is hosting the 3rd Nalafem Summit under the theme: Women's Right to Lead, to:
FOSTER
Intergenerational Accountability, deepening conversations on Africa Young Women B+25 Manifesto demands towards creating a platform for information sharing, capacity support, and financing for young women leadership
ENABLE
safety for Women in Politics, including cybersecurity and combatting online harassment that hinders women's full participation in politics
MOBILIZE
for Financial Freedom by leveraging ICT and e-commerce for women's education, entrepreneurship, and political participation.
According to the Sustainable Development
Goals Report 2023
Increasing gender diversity in political leadership is critical not only for fairness and inclusion, but also for potential economic benefits. Any nation's economic growth and development depends heavily on the participation and leadership of women.
Even though women have historically been successful leaders, stereotypes and traditional barriers persist. Digitalization, through increased internet and social media usage, may be able to help change perceptions of women as political leaders. The advent of digital technologies is helping women participate in politics even in the face of mounting concerns about cybersecurity, online harassment, censorship and misinformation. Digitalization has the potential to help close gender gaps in political participation and leadership, which is currently the largest gender gap.
Decision-making at all levels must be responsive, inclusive, participatory, and representational. To shift from digital access for the few to access for everyone and have inclusive decision making, we need a collaborative framework and engagement to promote and implement non-discriminatory laws and policies for sustainable development. This must address safety and gender based violence, financial freedom and intergenerational accountability.
