About Afresist
Afresist is a millennial-led ecosystem working throughout Africa since 2019, to develop innovative leadership models, train the next generation of peacebuilders and promote public policies based on the principle of Pan-Africanism.

Afresist runs multiple projects including the Afresist Youth Leadership Program (AYLP), the Nala Feminist Collective (NalaFEM), among others.

Nala Feminist Collective is a Pan-African group of 17 feminists with a mission to foster, enable and mobilize young women from Africa and the Diaspora. NalaFEM is guided by the Africa Young Women Beijing+25 Manifeo targeting political, digital and offline spaces. NalaFEM is convened by Afresist.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Project Manager, the individual contractor will assist in the following:

  • Executive manager of the NalaFEM secretariat 
  • Lead the performance of the secretariat duties and activities and ensure that clear working arrangements are established 
  • Act as the secretariat of Nala Council and its activities, including organizing the retreat and quaterly virtual meetings 
  • Oversee the delivery of NalaFEM activities and day to day operations 
  • Guided by Nala Council, develop Nala strategies, action plans, flagship projects etc 
  • Maintain oversight of the project plan at all times to ensure the different project strands are on schedule and to alert the team to issues
  • Use NalaFEM tools (Slack, Asana, etc.) 
  • Organise and coordinate daily/ weekly team meetings for Nala secretariat
  • Write and distribute meeting minutes and any other relevant materials
  • Identify, engage and coordinate partnerships and coordinate and liaise with partners and be main focal point including organizing strategic calls and follow ups 
  • Participate in all related public and closed meetings to the project with UN Women or other stakeholders and when not possible delegate team members
  • Coordinate with the Women, Gender and Development Directorate and any other relevant stakeholder of the African Union
  • Work closely with the digital team on reviewing and approvals for newsletters, blogs, visuals, social media  etc.
  • Liaise, review and approve translation related 
  • Coordinating the development of and finalization of necessary monthly, quarterly and yearly reports for the donor and the M&E consultant as well as public reports

Duties and responsibilities

Develop and manage a sound and adapted-to-context monitoring, evaluation, and learning system, across all Nalafem programs that leverages qualitative and quantitative methods, and draws from a variety of data sources to measure progress, evaluate impact and promote learning. This should include: 

  • Definition of specific methods and tools to monitor projects indicators
  • Proposition of standardized sector indicators
  • Development of a data collection and M&E systems
  • Monitoring and evaluation of project activities (operational progress, outputs, and outcomes)
  • Design and undertake in-depth internal evaluations as required 
  • Provide technical input on Nalafem to project proposals as required

2. Facilitate the learning process for the development of evidence-based programming, as well as facilitate the knowledge transfer to increase the quality of Nalafem’s actions. This includes:  

  • Analysis and compilation of best practices and lessons learnt
  • Coordination with Nalafem digital team for the development of a communication strategy targeting dissemination of best practices targeting different stakeholder segments
  • Identify technical gaps and support identification of appropriate capacity-building needs and opportunities
  • Organization of one annual workshop for the restitution of best practices to Nalafem staff
  • Organization of workshops to enhance transparency, accountability, and learning mindset in the mission, building capacity and providing technical support to Nafem staff (and partners) in the implementation of the M&E  frameworks and procedures

3. Develop Nalafem Monitoring and Evaluation framework and plan based on Nalafem Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

4. Research and collect feedback, data and stories of Nalafem stakeholders, networks and partners 

5. Develop assessment for Nalafem 5-Years strategy

III. SCOPE OF THE SERVICE

We are seeking a skilled Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Consultant to support Nalafem Secretariat in strengthening its monitoring and evaluation systems and practices and generate based feedback for Nalafem 5-Years strategy and policies, and programmes planning. The M&E Consultant will work closely with Afresist Secretariat and Nalafem Coordinator

The overall objective of the assignment is the implementation of operational Monitoring and Evaluation for Nalafem strategy and flagship projects. The purpose is to provide the project teams with tools to effectively monitor project progresses and achievements and to feed management with feedback from Nalafem communities.

The consultant is expected to:

  • Study all projects documents and strategies 
  • Review the M&E needs and plans for the overall 5-year strategy and each flagship project, and extract relevant indicators to monitor the projects outcomes and outputs
  • Establish an effective data collection system and reporting forms for capturing quantitative
    and qualitative information
  • Identify sources of verification that the project can use. As much as possible, use existing data sources embedded in existing systems
  • Establish an operational manual of M&E system that includes the above and guides the project team in processing and evaluating the information
  • Implement the established M&E system during the life cycle of all the projects ongoing during the period of implementation of the assignment
  • Propose new relevant indicators to monitor the outcomes and outputs for all projects in the proposal-writing phase

Specific objectives:

  • To formulate a set of relevant, simple and straightforward indicators to monitor the project outputs and activities, through establishing of M&E system; 
  • To implement the established M&E system during the remaining life cycle of the project.

The timeframe/sequence of activities:
The whole timeframe of the required services is 12 months on a part-time basis, including one month of inception phase and an additional two months of probation period. The duration for each activity will be announced by the potential consultant in the proposed methodology.

The methodology/approach of the assignment

The expected outcome shall be achieved through the most appropriate methodology plan which is to be proposed by the potential consultant and is to include approaches to maximize the Nalafem staff and community’s participation in the process.

The consultant must provide a detailed description of the essential performance characteristics, reporting conditions and quality assurance mechanisms that will be put in place, while demonstrating that the proposed methodology will be appropriate to the local conditions and context of the work.

Scope of work
We are seeking a skilled webmaster and designer to join our growing communications team. In this role, the webmaster will be responsible for managing Afresist multi-project websites (including the Afresist website, NalaFEM website, etc) ensuring that our websites are user-friendly and up to date at all times and provide general graphics design for communications related purposes. The webmaster designer will also work with our digital team to expand our presence through the design and implementation of new web-based applications that will positively impact our experience. The webmaster designer will work closely with the Afresist Secretariat and NalaFEM team as well as Organizational Development Consultant.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage and curate a website based on the WordPress CMS;
  • Monitor security and perform necessary updates for plugins and themes;
  • Update content to reflect current SEO trends;
  • Support Newsletter Management on MailChimp and other email management services. 
  • Maintain VPS servers, optimizing website speeds;
  • Conceptualizing creative ideas with the comms team;

We are seeking a skilled Organizational Development (OD) Consultancy firm or individual Consultant to lead the organisational development process of Afresist with a focus on its project Nala Feminist Collective. The OD Consultant will work closely with the Afresist Secretariat and NalaFEM team. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze all the available assessments and information on previous projects and engagements of the organization;
  • Set up the human resources system in collaboration with the Human Resources Officer;
  • Advise on effective development strategies and action plans;
  • Elaborate respective monitoring and evaluation framework for the development strategies and action plans;
  • Undertake consultations with the Afresist leadership and NalaFEM team, partners and stakeholders to inform and develop the interventions and action plans;
  • Conduct needs assessment study of Afresist and its main project, NalaFEM;

  • Set up the human resources system  
  • Lead the development of relevant policies of the organization including: Staff Handbook, HR Policy, Travel Policy, Leave Policy, Recruitment Policy, Safety Policy, Terms and Conditions, and other policies as identified in the course of the strategic plan development process;
  • Coordinate the recruitment Afresist staff;
  • Prepare job descriptions, terms of reference and calls for applications for the recruitment and selection campaign;
  • Ensure that regular tracking reports, pertinent organograms, databases, and information flow lines are constantly updated;
  • Design Human Resources development plans including competency training and skills development for team;
