Afresist is a millennial-led ecosystem working throughout Africa since 2019, to develop innovative leadership models, train the next generation of peacebuilders and promote public policies based on the principle of Pan-Africanism.

Afresist runs multiple projects including the Afresist Youth Leadership Program (AYLP), the Nala Feminist Collective (NalaFEM), among others.

Scope of work
We are seeking a skilled Human Resources Officer to ensure and support the human resources system of Afresist, to lead the set up of the Human Resources system, and the policies and terms and conditions of the recruitment process. The Human Resources Officer will work closely with the Afresist Secretariat and NalaFEM team as well as Organizational Development Consultant.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Set up the human resources system  
  • Lead the development of relevant policies of the organization including: Staff Handbook, HR Policy, Travel Policy, Leave Policy, Recruitment Policy, Safety Policy, Terms and Conditions, and other policies as identified in the course of the strategic plan development process;
  • Coordinate the recruitment Afresist staff;
  • Prepare job descriptions, terms of reference and calls for applications for the recruitment and selection campaign;
  • Ensure that regular tracking reports, pertinent organograms, databases, and information flow lines are constantly updated;
  • Design Human Resources development plans including competency training and skills development for team;
  • Establish and maintain personnel files;
  • Carry out other duties that may be assigned by Afresist secretariat and NalaFEM Coordinator in compliance with the job description.

Qualifications and skills

  • A degree or higher national diploma in human resources management, administration, business or related fields

Scope of work
We are seeking a skilled Organizational Development (OD) Consultancy firm or individual Consultant to lead the organisational development process of Afresist with a focus on its project Nala Feminist Collective. The OD Consultant will work closely with the Afresist Secretariat and NalaFEM team. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze all the available assessments and information on previous projects and engagements of the organization;
  • Set up the human resources system in collaboration with the Human Resources Officer;
  • Advise on effective development strategies and action plans;
  • Elaborate respective monitoring and evaluation framework for the development strategies and action plans;
  • Undertake consultations with the Afresist leadership and NalaFEM team, partners and stakeholders to inform and develop the interventions and action plans;
  • Conduct needs assessment study of Afresist and its main project, NalaFEM;
  • Develop a results framework for the improvement of performance of NalaFEM project;
  • Draft, review and assess the organizational policies including the recruitment policies, the safety policies, terms and conditions, etc. in collaboration with the Human Resources Officer;
  • Advise and design skills development trainings for the Afresist secretariat including NalaFEM team;

Scope of work
We are seeking a skilled Communications and Press Officer to develop the Communications and Press strategy for NalaFEM, and to coordinate communications on NalaFEM activities and media engagements. The Communications and Press Officer will work closely with the Afresist Secretariat and NalaFEM team.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive Communications and Press strategy for NalaFEM along with an execution plan that meet acceptable benchmarks;
  • Coordinate the preparation and issuing of press/media releases, newsletters/mailers for actions and activities of NalaFEM and its Council;
  • Coordinate media engagement opportunities for NalaFEM Council;
  • Develop media content in the form of opinion pieces, articles, blogs and other content for NalaFEM Chair and Council;
  • Coordinate work collaboratively with partners and their media and communications teams to prepare and deliver NalaFEM content on their platforms and in their news channels;
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive database of media contacts across the continent and globally;
  • Coordinate the recruitment of communications and press volunteers;
  • Supervise and manage staff, consultants and volunteers related to Communications and Press;

Scope of work
We are seeking a skilled Social Media Manager to develop, implement and manage the Social Media strategy of NalaFEM. The Social Media Manager will work closely with the Afresist Secretariat and NalaFEM team, particularly the Communications and Press Officer.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and manage the social media strategy;
  • With the guidance and support of Afresist leadership, define and implement measurable KPIs based on the overall expectation;
  • Generate, edit, publish and share timely engaging content (eg. original text, photos, videos and news);
  • Manage the day-to-day handling of all social media channels with daily posting and updates on Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube accounts and manage and oversee content consistency throughout the various platforms;
  • Oversee, plan and deliver content across different platforms using scheduling tools such as Hootsuite and Iconosquare, and create engaging multimedia content, and/or outsource this effectively, across multiple platforms;
  • Undertake audience research, as well as articles, stories, resources or other content that is relevant to our communities and post it in a manner that invites conversation and interaction;
  • Manage and facilitate social media communities by responding to social media posts and developing discussions as well as communicating with followers, responding to queries in a timely manner and monitoring reviews;
  • Stay up to date with continuous evolving social media practices and technologies and demply them to serve NalaFEM objectives;
  • With the support and supervision of the Communications and Press officer seek out and forge social media related collaborations with relevant organizations of interest and form key relationships with influencers across the social media platforms;
  • Based on planned or scheduled events, create a regular publishing content calendar, manage and curate social media content for NalaFEM projects and Council;
  • Develop draft content of social media toolkits whenever needed;
  • Conduct monthly analytics and metric assessment on social media performance by reach, engagement and impressions and develop a comprehensive monthly report on social media impact for internal and public use, and propose which areas need attention for growth and improvement;
  • Educate other NalaFEM staff on the use of social media and promote its use within NalaFEM (in-house roles);
  • Manage Afresist social media accounts with posting and cross-posting from NalaFEM as required;

Scope of work
We are seeking a skilled webmaster and designer to join our growing communications team. In this role, the webmaster will be responsible for managing Afresist multi-project websites (including the Afresist website, NalaFEM website, etc) ensuring that our websites are user-friendly and up to date at all times and provide general graphics design for communications related purposes. The webmaster designer will also work with our digital team to expand our presence through the design and implementation of new web-based applications that will positively impact our experience. The webmaster designer will work closely with the Afresist Secretariat and NalaFEM team as well as Organizational Development Consultant.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage and curate a website based on the WordPress CMS;
  • Monitor security and perform necessary updates for plugins and themes;
  • Update content to reflect current SEO trends;
  • Support Newsletter Management on MailChimp and other email management services. 
  • Maintain VPS servers, optimizing website speeds;
  • Conceptualizing creative ideas with the comms team;
  • Establishing design guidelines, standards, and best practices;
  • Maintaining the appearance of a website by enforcing content standards;
  • Designing visual imagery for websites and ensuring that they are in line with branding guidelines;
  • Enhancing User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI);
  • Support the hosting and production of virtual engagements through Zoom and other platforms like StreamYard and Restream;
